Elgin’s New Dual Carriageway By-Pass:
The plan is to build a dual carriageway all the way between Inverness and Aberdeen. Much of the Aberdeen end is already done.
Is it worth it? Will the land owners sell their ground to builders for housing as they normally do when they get wind of potential compulsory purchases? Is the Moray Council forward planning committee fit for purpose? Who will get the contract?
China will make most from it. It will be ten men and Chinese built machines, at greatly inflated work prices. (That is the work at inflated prices, and that should be illegal for community good work. Which is why those jobs should be nationalised)
Oh for the days of Isambard Kingdom Brunel and his ten thousand happy Navvies. It would be worth paying twice the money for the work. Not with picks and shovels and wheel barrows though. Just more men and machines spread out along the route doing their own part of the whole, all at once.
Dreamer me . . . .
However: The really big question is, what held it up before? It could not have been money, because there would still be none. Or something else is going to go short.
I think we’ll all appreciate it finished though. Can we presume Lhanbryde, Fochabers, Huntly, will remain single carriageway, as they’ve just been by-passed? Might be best.
